The Latest Video Game Adaptation Film

Hollywood is increasingly aggressively adapting films from video games. From Warcraft films to Pokémon Detective Pikachu successfully became a box office on the market. Now, what are the film adaptations of the latest video games that will air in 2020 and 2021? 123 movies have summarized the list below.

Monster Hunter (2020)
Next is the film adapted from the Monster Hunter video game. This fantasy action thriller is directed and written by Paul W. S. Anderson (Resident Evil). The film is planned to be released in theaters in September 2020.

Minecraft (2021)
Minecraft is a sandbox video game developed by Mojang. In January 2019, Peter Sollett (Nick & Norah’s Infinite Playlist) was announced to write and direct the film. He will present a completely different story from the previous version which had changed the director. There is no player information yet, the movie Minecraft is planned to air on March 4, 2022.

Mortal Kombat (2021)
Mortal Kombat is a fantasy martial arts action film directed by Simon McQuoid (in his feature director’s debut) from a screenplay by Greg Russo. The film is an adaptation of video games published by WB Games. This film is a reboot of the film Mortal Kombat: Annihilation (1997). Starring Ludi Lin, Joe Taslim, Tadanobu Asano, and Jessica McNamee, the film is planned to air in January 2021.

Tomb Raider 2 (2021)
The film will become a sequel to the reboot film Tomb Raider (2018), starring Alicia Vikander. Reporting from IMDB, this film will be directed by Ben Wheatley (Free Fire). The film Tomb Raider 2 is planned to appear in theaters in March 2021.

Uncharted (2021)
Director Ruben Fleischer (Zombieland, Venom) will work on a film from the script by Marcum Art and Matt Holloway. The film Uncharted would later become a prequel to the game, where Tom Holland as Nathan Drake and Mark Wahlberg as Victor Sullivan. Antonio Banderas, Sophie Ali and Tati Gabrielle also joined the film. The film is planned to appear in theaters in October 2021.
